Start Yachting
This course is designed
as a short taster of sail cruising for novice sailors. By the end of
a weekend, the student should expect to have had experience of
steering a yacht, sail handling, rope work and be aware of safety on
board.
The 2-day course includes food taken on board, fuel and mooring
fees. Waterproofs are available on request. Fees: £150

Competent Crew:
An introduction into sailing, designed for the complete beginner.
Includes personal safety, seamanship and helmsmanship to the level
required to crew on a cruising yacht. You will spend 5 nights on
board and at the end will be expected to helm, bend on sails, tie
the requisite knots, be aware of safety procedures, understand basic
nautical terminology and reach shore by rowing a dinghy. You will
make more than one passage in daylight hours and one including 4
night hours. If you complete the course successfully, you will be
awarded a Competent Crew Course Completion Certificate.
This 5-day course includes logbook, course notebook, food taken on
board, fuel and mooring fees. Waterproofs are available on request:

Day Skipper:
Designed as an
elementary course in pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat
handling, to the level required to skipper a cruising yacht by day,
in familiar waters. You will spend 5 nights on board and at the end
will be expected to helm, bend on sails, show basic wind awareness
and knowledge of meteorology, make a simple passage and pilotage
plan, and have a basic knowledge of the International Regulations
for Preventing Collisions at Sea. If you complete the course
successfully, you will be awarded a Day Skipper Course Completion
Certificate.
This 5-day course includes, food taken on board, fuel and mooring

Coastal Skipper:
A more advanced course for yacht skippers. Similar to the Day
Skipper but with more assessment of ability and potential. You will
need a minimum experience of 15 days (2 as skipper) 300 miles with 8
night hours. You will spend 5 nights on board and at the end will be
expected to skipper a cruising yacht on a coastal passage, show
awareness of meteorology, tides, buoyage, safety procedures, passage
planning, recognise lights and sound signals and have a sound
knowledge of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions
at Sea. If you complete the course successfully, you will be awarded
a Coastal Skipper Course Completion Certificate.
This 5-day course includes, food taken on board, fuel and mooring

RYA/DoT Coastal Skipper (Exam. Preparation)
Minimum experience of 30 days at sea (2 as skipper), 800 miles with
12 night hours. This course includes all of the above demands on the
candidate and is examined by an independent RYA appointed examiner.
After 4 days preparation at Dreamseekers, the examiner will step on
board for the 5th day. You will need to show him evidence of your
logged seamiles, a valid VHF/SRC certificate, First Aid certificate,
and a passage plan up or down the coast which you will have prepared
during the 4 days on board.
This 5-day preparation and examination includes food taken on board,
use of the boat for the examination on the 5th day, fuel and mooring
fees. Waterproofs are available on request: Fees: £395.
Our fee does not include the examiners fee (currently £123 paid
directly to the examiner on the day of the examination.)

RYA/DoT
Yachtmaster (Exam. Preparation):
An advanced course for leisure or professional purposes. Minimum
qualifying requirements of 50 days at sea (5 as skipper), 2,500
miles, with 5 passages greater than 60 miles, of which 2 must be
overnight, and at least 2 of these as skipper. This course includes
all of the above demands on the candidate, plus a demonstration of
the ability to take command of a vessel in unfamiliar waters by day
or night. You will be examined by an independent RYA appointed
examiner. After 4 days preparation at Dreamseekers, the examiner
will step on board on the 5th day. You will need to show him
evidence of your logged seamiles, a valid VHF/SRC certificate, First
Aid certificate, and a passage plan across the Channel, which you
will have prepared during the previous 4 days.
This 5-day preparation and examination includes food taken on board,
use of the boat for the examination, fuel and mooring fees.

directly to the examiner on the day of the examination.)

Day Skipper Theory (Intensive)
This course serves as an introduction to the theory of sailing,
nautical terms, necessary skills, basic meteorology, use of
electronic instruments and safety considerations for the novice
skipper and his/her crew. It takes place over 5 days and is
non-residential, although there is plenty of accommodation in the
immediate area. The price does not include any meals other than teas
and coffees taken during the teaching time, but does include the RYA
student packs and materials. Tuition is personal, held in groups of
no more than 4. Fees: £300.

Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore Theory (Intensive)
This is an advanced course in navigation and meteorology for
candidates for the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore
Certificate. The syllabus makes some provision for revision of
subjects in the Day Skipper course, but those who have not acquired
the knowledge set out in the elementary course are unlikely to be
able to assimilate all the subjects covered in the advanced course
in the time available. It takes place over 6 days and is
non-residential, although there is plenty of accommodation in the
immediate area. The price does not include any meals other than teas
and coffees taken during the teaching time , but does include the
RYA student packs and materials. Tuition is personal, held in groups
of no more than 4. Fees: £360

Yachtmaster Ocean : 600 Mile Qualifying Passage
In order to gain the qualification of RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean, the
candidates must have completed a minimum non-stop distance of 600
miles at sea as skipper or mate of watch. These passages are
designed to "clock up" the required miles in preparation for the
oral examination. Fees: £780 for 10 days allocated to the passage.

Day Skipper Combined Practical and Theory Course
This course conflates the practical and theory courses and takes
place over 9 consecutive days. The first two days are spent on
theoretical aspects of sailing, followed immediately by 5 days at
sea. The next day ashore is spent on the completion of the theory
before sitting the examination on the final day. Tuition is
personal, held in groups of no more than 4.
This 9-day course includes food taken on board, fuel and mooring
fees. Waterproofs are available on request: Fees: £630 Accommodation
on board for the weekends either end of the course will be charged
at a rate of an additional £20 per night per person (Food not
included).

ICC
The International Certificate of Competence is becoming increasingly
demanded by harbour authorities in Europe. This qualification in
basic boat handling is recognised throughout the EU and USA. As a
RYA Recognised Teaching Establishment, Dreamseekers is authorised to
carry out the test. Provided no tuition is needed, the test is
unlikely to take more than 1/2 day. The instructor/examiner's time
will be billed at £90 for the 1/2 day + £30 for the use of the
school boat if required.

CEVNI
This oral test is carried out to test the candidates knowledge of
the signals and protocols operated on the Inland Waterways of
Europe. Fees: £20.00

Own Boat Tuition:
All above courses can be carried out on your own boat, provided that
it meets certain safety standards complying with C8 of the RYA
regulations and that there are no more than four students. We also
offer training tailored to suit individuals' needs on specific
aspects of seamanship, navigation and boat handling. These tuition
packages can be arranged by the day or by the week. Your
instructor's time will be billed at £180 per day on board.

Diesel Engine Maintenance
This 1 day course aims to give you an awareness of the main systems
of a marine diesel engine and the ability to take simple measures to
maintain it and make basic repairs that do not require workshop
support. Courses will be held on a monthly basis throughout the
